VOCABOLaudio was born in 2004 from an idea by Michele Agosteo, with a simple objective: to create a collection of authentic Italian pronunciations recorded by a professional voice artist.
Today, the project features approximately 16,000 original recordings, recorded word by word in a studio by a voice actor. These are not AI-generated voices: they are human recordings that, over the years, have made VOCABOLaudio a resource cited and referenced by websites, universities, and scientific publications as a benchmark for Italian pronunciation.
VOCABOLaudio is not a dictionary. It is a collection of Italian words to listen to, accompanied by their translations into numerous languages.
In August 2026, the project underwent a major overhaul thanks to modern technology. Alongside the original audio recordings, there are now nearly 200,000 translations—a number set to grow together with the available languages and new services.
The goal remains the original one: making the Italian language easier to listen to, understand, and learn. Among future developments, we are also exploring—with the necessary authorizations—text-to-speech technologies based on the project's original voice, aiming to further expand our content and offer new services, mostly for free.
